Issues:
Recorders Court - was dismantled by the Michigan State Legislator in 1996. It was merged with the Wayne County 3rd Circuit Court in October of 1997. There was stiff opposition to the destruction of the court. About half the judges in Recorders Court opposed the action. Many believe that Recorders Court was targeted because of the conviction of Larry Nevers and Walter Budzyn, two police officers who murdered Malice Green. The motivational reason given by the state was of fairness. The state legislator did not want a court that had jurisdiction within Detroit and only chose its jury pool from the cities residents. Some would say this was an unprecedented event. The reasoning by the state for its action was not of dire need. The court had existed and functioned, within budget and with a good performance record, prior to its dismantling. The republican controlled legislator has been handed the blame for pushing through.
