2978 W. Grand Boulevard
Detroit, Michigan 48202

Recently came under criticism from community groups and organizations, for declaring recall signatures of Mayor Dennis Archer invalid. This followed the Archer Administrations possible illegal handling of the petition documents during their counting by the clerks office and declarations by Mayor Archer that he would prosecute any person found to have committed voter fraud by submitting an invalid signature. To date no individual has been charged with voters fraud. The city clerk and the clerks office is being sued in court to force the recognition of these signatures which were rechecked by community volunteers and are believed to have more than enough signatures to have forced a recall.
During the November 2000 General Election many problems were reported when persons tried to vote. Some of the problems were not enough ballots or pens or voting booths to accommodate or allow registered voters to cast their vote. The Qualified Voters List was not up to date which prevented some legally registered voters the ability to cast their vote. The Michigan Democratic Party sued the clerks office on election day to force the Detroit polls to stay open because of the above problems which they believed were forcing many registered and interested voters to not have the ability or right to vote in the election. Those who did vote were subject to extremely long waits in line, some as long as four hours and the average being two and a half hours.
